Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we're doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what's going on around us. It involves awareness of our thoughts and feelings, identifying the judgments we hold and whether they are harmful or helpful in our attempts to live a life consistent with what we value. Ventures involve taking risks, changing things, and approaching things differently. Both mindfulness and ventures require vulnerability. It's what we ask our clients to do when they show up each session.
Darcy received a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies, double minors in Psychology and Sociology, with a focus on Adolescent Crisis Intervention from the University of Wisconsin – Stout, and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology – Chicago. Darcy is licensed to practice in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Darcy strongly believes in growth through connection and that a compassionate, collaborative relationship between client and therapist is essential to the therapeutic process. Darcy’s warm, understanding, and non-judgmental nature aids in establishing trust with her clients. She seeks to intimately understand what brings each client to therapy, assisting them as they explore their life experiences and empowering them to make the changes needed to live a life consistent with what they value.
Life doesn’t come with an instruction manual and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to the therapeutic process. Darcy embraces an eclectic approach to treatment, one that is tailored to meet the needs of each client. Her enthusiasm and genuine desire to partner with clients to provide personalized care based on evidenced-based therapy techniques is apparent to all she comes in contact with.
Darcy has over 23 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and their families. She worked several years with severely abused and neglected children, adolescents, and adults, as well as their foster and biological families. Darcy worked at the child and adolescent inpatient psychiatric units of Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and Linden Oaks Behavioral Health in Naperville, where she provided services in the partial and intensive outpatient programs as well. Prior to founding Mindful Ventures, Darcy spent 12 years working in a group private practice.
Darcy's clinical experiences afforded her the opportunity to help individuals with Adjustment, Anxiety, Depressive, Disruptive Behavior, Impulse Control, Inattention and Hyperactivity, Mood, Personality, and Post-Traumatic Stress disorders, as well those struggling with death and dying, divorce/separation, family conflict, grief and loss, identity, parenting challenges, self-esteem and various stage of life transitions.
When I think of where I feel the most mindful and at peace, it is "Up North" at our beloved family cabin on a lake in Hayward, Wisconsin. Being on and in the lake itself, all the aspects of nature that activate my five senses in the surrounding environment, every moment is an opportunity to be mindful.
I really enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, our two dogs, and cat. They keep me on my toes! My friends and extended family members are also very important to me and I relish any opportunity to spend time with them.
I love reading, cooking, baking, gardening, dancing, swimming, traveling, spending time in nature, and listening to music.
